Early reports from itT members are mixed. Some have updated with no problems and have reported faster browsing, while others are experiencing locks, boot menu problems, looping reboots, and package conflicts which seem to get fixed after a manual reflash.

If you have installed anything out of the ordinary, be sure to read through the itT comments before updating. If you are not receiving Seamless Software Upgrade notifications, you might not have upgraded to the latest firmware.

Did you know that your tablet’s battery lasts longer if you DON’T switch it off?

It sounds absolutely crazy but it’s absolutely true, switching the tablet off and on uses the same amount of battery life as just leaving the tablet switched on for a day or two. The reason is that the tablets are computers, and computers use a lot more power when they’re starting up than when they’re just switched on. If you switch the tablet off, you’ll have to switch it back on again to use it and this “start up” process drains the battery very quickly.

You don’t actually need to EVER switch the tablets off, they’re designed to be left switched on all the time like a mobile phone. You can charge them while they’re on, and they will warn you several times if the battery is running low.

Some other things that can make your tablet battery last longer:

Exit as many applications as possible

Turn down the screen’s brightness to the lowest level that you can cope with

Make the screen switch itself off more quickly

Switch off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi if you aren’t using them, either separately or by putting the tablet into Offline or Flight Mode

You can find more details on all these things, including a step-by-step video, by clicking here to see the full-length tutorial over on the Internet Tablet School.

Occasionally some Nokia tablet users report that their tablet’s web browser won’t display websites with Flash content on it (for example YouTube uses Flash to display videos). You may even see a message saying you have to install Flash, but don’t worry, you don’t!

Flash is very VERY easy to fix, simply click on the globe in the bottom right corner of the browser, select “Components” and then make sure the Flash option is ticked. That’s it, the Flash should start working again.

You can find out more about this fix, including a video demonstration of it, a discussion of what Flash is, and an explanation of why this bug happens, by clicking here to read the complete tutorial over on the Internet Tablet School.

Are websites looking distorted and taking a long time to load on your tablet? It may not be the tablet’s fault, it could be that you have an optional setting called “Fit Width To View” switched on when it should be switched off.

This optional setting is theoretically meant to make pages fit into the width of the tablet’s screen better, but it actually ends up doing more harm than good most of the time by severely distorting pages or even stopping them working altogether.

However, help is at hand! You can switch “Fit Width To View” off very very easily by clicking on the browser’s little globe icon in the bottom right hand corner, and then UNticking the option for Fit Width To View.

For more specific instructions, as well as examples of why it’s a good idea to switch FWTV off, click here to view the full tutorial on the Internet Tablet School.

Hello, and welcome to Tablet Scene, a site devoted to Nokia’s Internet Tablets including the N810 and N800.

Tablet Scene is intended to provide a relaxed, laid-back, not too technical set of forums where owners can discuss how to use their tablets, where to get help with a broken tablet, or just hang out and have a nice time. You can get to the forums by clicking on the “Forums” link at the top of the page. To get back to the front page, just click on the “Home” link instead.

If you’ve just got a Nokia tablet and are wondering what to do next, you ought to first read this tutorial on the Internet Tablet School site, which goes through some important first steps after buying your N810 or N800.

Those of you who are interested in getting deep into the inner workings of their tablet may also want to check out our sister-site Internet Tablet Talk, which provides a more technically-oriented set of forums for advanced users.

Internet Tablet Talk and Tablet Scene forums use exactly the same membership database, so you can use the same username and password to access both. Really, the two sites are actually just two sections of one big site, and some of you may want to visit both sets of forums. Whichever section you go to, ITT or Tablet Scene, you can expect a warm welcome from the tablet community.

If you are not yet a member, register now, so you can participate in the discussions. Becoming a member is FREE!
